In our many years of making BioThane gear, we have never come across a screw that could not be removed. That said, we have encountered a small handful of absolutely hateful screws that gave us a VERY hard time! Black screws seem to be the biggest offenders. The powder coating can make them more prone to sticking.
For this reason, we strongly suggest trying to remove your handle/panel screws BEFORE ordering a replacement handle or panel. Remember, these items are crafted to order, so we do not accept returns, and stuck screws are not a material defect.
A Few Tips From Us
Our greatest weapon is an 8V electric screwdriver with some serious torque. Sometimes, we actually have to tighten the screw just a little more before backing it out. We’re not sure of the physics behind why this works, but it often does!
A few other things that can help:
- Use a grippy surface. Place the screw against a silicone or grippy mat, or even a rubber jar opener. This helps protect the screw head while giving you extra grip.
- Make sure you have a good, straight connection between the screwdriver bit and the screw before applying pressure.
- If the screw spins for a while and doesn't come out, be careful—it may be HOT! Let it cool completely before trying again.
Most screws come out without much drama. Every once in a while, though, you'll meet that one screw. If you do, don't panic—it can usually be persuaded!
And remember, there’s a reason we use screws! They allow us to create a strong, secure, and durable design while still giving you the flexibility to replace or refresh your handle or panel when you want a new look. Lots of happy dog parents use this system and love the ability to customize their gear over time. So, while you may occasionally have to battle that one screw, the end result is a tough, functional design built to keep up with your dog—and that's something worth celebrating! 🐾
